Frequently Asked Questions

You might be visiting our site because you're new to our parish, perhaps you haven't been to church before and are interested to know more, or maybe it's been a while since you've been to Mass. Whatever your reasons, you are very welcome indeed and we hope you find the information below helpful:

What happens at Mass?

If you haven't been to a Mass before, it can seem a bit confusing at first so please don't worry about getting things 'wrong'! At the beginning of Mass, we acknowledge what we have done wrong and ask God for His mercy. The service is then divided into two main parts, the first part is the Liturgy of the Word where we listen to readings from the Bible (Scripture) and then to a homily which reflects on the readings and tries to connect them to our daily lives and to the teachings of the Church. We respond by professing our faith and by praying for others.

The second part is the Liturgy of the Eucharist, and its main focus is the holiest and most sacred part of the Mass, Holy Eucharist. This is a re-enactment of the Last Supper, the final meal that Jesus Christ shared with his disciples before his arrest, and eventual crucifixion. At the meal Jesus ate bread and wine and instructed his disciples to do the same in memory of him. During this part of the Mass we come forward to receive the body (bread) and blood (wine) of Jesus Christ. If you are not Catholic you are still very welcome to come forward for a blessing.

Can I bring my children?

Of course, children are very welcome indeed. Our 10.15am Sunday Mass at St Winefride's is particularly family friendly, so don't worry if your little one likes to be noisy or has a good cry during the service! We're always looking at ways to make our churches more family and child friendly so please get in touch and let us have your ideas and suggestions.

What about access for wheelchairs and other facilities for people who are disabled?

There is wheelchair access to all church buildings. At St Winefride's Church and the church hall, ramps are located outside the main entrances. At St John the Evangelist's Church, there is a ramp in to the church hall with access to the main church via the connecting door to the left. Disabled toilet facilities are also available, located at the back of St Winefride's Church and in the church hall at St John the Evangelist's. Both churches are also fitted with loop induction systems. If you need any assistance, please speak to one of our welcomers.

Is there parking?

Yes, there is a small car park at St John the Evangelist's Church. There is also a car park at St Winefride's Church Hall, next to St Winefride's Church. It is possible to park on the road near both churches but please respect our neighbours and park responsibly, thank you!
